DALLAS – University of Delaware football QB Tyler Bell has been named Conference USA's Freshman of the Week for his performance against Middle Tennessee, the league announced Monday. He is the second Fightin' Blue Hen to earn this honor this season, joining S Kevin Moore after his performance against Merrimack.
Bell set the Delaware single-game passing yards record by a freshman (306) in his first-career start against Middle Tennessee. He completed 22-of-36 passes with two passing touchdowns, 15 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. The rookie signal caller became the first UD true-freshman gunslinger to start a regular season game since Mike Connor did so on November 17, 2001 at Villanova. The 15-yard touchdown pass from WR Bryson Graves to Bell was the first receiving TD by a Delaware QB since Trent Hurley caught one from WR Rob Jones for 13 yards at Villanova on November 11, 2013.
