PHILADELPHIA - University of Delaware field hockey took down Temple 2-1 at Howarth Field in Philadelphia, Pa., on Friday. The Fightin' Blue Hens improve to 4-5 on the year, picking up their second-straight win.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Livia van't Hek scored two goals in the victory, marking her first-career multi-goal game. She now leads the team in goals with four, and is tied for the lead in points with eight.
- Jane Baldy recorded her second win of the year, and second-straight while stopping four shots.
- Linde van Leeuwen had an assist, along with a defensive save.
- Lily Cosner had her first defensive save of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- On Temple's first shot around four minutes into the contest, Cosner thwarted the opportunity, shifting the momentum towards UD for the rest of the quarter. With three minutes remaining, van't Hek dribbled through two defenders and sent one into the cage to start the scoring for the Blue & Gold.
- Baldy recorded three saves in a scoreless second, including two-consecutive on one scoring try for the Owls.
- In the third stanza, van't Hek continued her scoring on a redirection right after the start of the half, assisted by van Leeuwen on a penalty corner attempt.
- The Owls picked up a goal in the fourth quarter across six shots, but Delaware was able to hold the lead as Baldy picked up two saves and the defense blocked two more Temple tries.
GAME NOTES
- Claire O'Connor made her collegiate debut.
- van't Hek's two goals were the first time a Blue Hen scored two-or-more goals in a game since Emma Miller against California on August 31, 2025.
- Baldy is the first Delaware goalkeeper to win each of her first two career starts since Lizzie Gaebel in 2018.
- Cosner and van Leeuwen's defensive saves are the first time since November 15, 2024 at UNC, that two Blue Hens recorded defensive saves in the same game (Cameron Medinger and Iris Bekker).
- This was Delaware's second-straight win over a team that ranked in the top 30 in the RPI. Temple came in at No. 29 in the latest rankings, while Fairfield was No. 26 in the Sept. 21 release.
- Delaware has finished the contest with a 2-1/1-2 outcome five times this season, already passing the total of its most frequent score, which also was 2-1/1-2 in 2025.
