Three Hens Score in Double Figures as Women’s Basketball Drops Saturday Contest to UTEP

NEWARK, Del. – Three members of the University of Delaware women's basketball team scored in double figures in a loss to UTEP, 79-72, inside the Bob Carpenter Center on Saturday. The Fightin' Blue Hens fall to 12-13, 6-7 CUSA, while the Miners improve to 11-13, 3-10 CUSA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Ande'a Cherisier scored 17 points, putting her in double figures for the 18th time this season. The junior added seven boards and two assists.
- Kailah Correa scored 16 points, her 13th double-digit scoring game of her freshman campaign.
- Lay Fantroy rounded out the double figures scoring, dropping 14 points to go with a team-high eight boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ella Wanzer, the designer of the new-pink Delaware uniforms debuted today, hit the first bucket of the game from beyond the arc to start the contest. At the game's initial media stoppage, the two teams were tied at 15 apiece. The first frame ended with the Blue Hens holding a 23-20 lead behind seven points from Fantroy.
- UTEP outpaced the Hens 12-8 through the first eight minutes of the second, leaving a one-point lead for the visitors. The half ended with Delaware holding a 35-34 advantage thanks to double-digit points from Cherisier.
- Cherisier left off right where she was in the first half, scoring six of UD's 11 points by the first of two third quarter media timeouts to widen the Blue & Gold lead to 46-42. A back-and-forth quarter that saw both teams score 19 points, ended with UD holding a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
- A 6-0 run for UTEP in 59 seconds led to a Delaware timeout with the Hens down three as 7:34 remained on the clock in the fourth. Despite Delaware making five of its last seven field goals in the middle of the frame, the Miners were able to increase their lead to six. With 3:18 remaining in regulation, the Hens trailed 70-61. UD scored six-consecutive points in a hurry on threes by Correa and Trinity Vance in the final minute of regulation with UTEP leading 76-72. A pair of free throws for the Miners put the game out of reach with 15 ticks left.
