Late Liberty Surge Just Enough to Get Past Men’s Basketball

NEWARK, Del. – A late surge by Liberty was just enough to get past the University of Delaware men's basketball team Wednesday night inside the Bob Carpenter Center with the Flames winning 75-69. The Fightin' Blue Hens drop to 6-16 overall and 2-9 CUSA, while LU moves to 19-3, 11-0 CUSA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Justyn Fernandez led the team with 21 points on an 8-of-12 evening. He added five boards and four assists.
Macon Emory used a career-high five 3-pointers to score 19 points, while corralling five rebounds.
Christian Bliss registered 15 points, five boards, and five helpers.
Tyler Houser rounded out a cohort of double-digit scorers with 14 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half was even most of the way until Liberty built a 23-16 lead with 7:19 remaining. Delaware responded with a buzzer-beater 3-pointer from Houser to take a 30-29 advantage into the locker room.
UD pulled ahead by as many as six at 49-43 with 12:08 on the clock. The Flames rallied back with an 8-2 run over 1:02 to knot things at 53 apiece. Another six-unanswered pushed the visitors up 59-53 at the media break with 6:33 on the clock. The Flames pushed the margin to nine before the Hens clawed back for a one-possession game 69-67 with 33 ticks left. It was a 6-2 advantage for Liberty all coming from the stripe the rest of the way.
