Football Hosts Liberty on Friday for Sold-Out Parents & Family Weekend Game

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware football team will host the Liberty Flames on Friday, October 2 at 7 p.m. for the sold-out Parents & Family Weekend game on CBS Sports Network. This will be the second game between the two schools, as Liberty won the series opener in 2025.

ABOUT THE FIGHTIN' BLUE HENS
- The Fightin' Blue Hens enter the contest 2-2, coming off a 42-3 road loss to Virginia.
- QB Nick Minicucci leads the team with 838 passing yards and five passing TDs. Among Conference USA signal callers, Minicucci ranks fifth in passing yards (838), passing yards per game (209.5), and passing touchdowns (5). He has nine games with at least 300 passing yards since the start of last season, one shy of Ole Miss star Trinidad Chambliss for the most in the FBS.
- RB Jo Silver is tops on the team with 205 rushing yards on the campaign with one rushing touchdown. Silver is fifth in the league in rushing yards (205) and rushing yards per game (51.3).
- WR Sean Wilson paces the team with 20 catches for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Wilson ranks fourth in Conference USA in receptions per game (5.0) and fifth in receiving yards. Wilson and WR Da'Wain Lofton are one of 14 FBS duos to each have 250+ receiving yards this season. They're the first Delaware tandem to do it within the team's first four games of a season since Aaron Love and Mark Duncan in 2007.
- LB Colin Gallagher leads the Hens with 34 tackles on the year. Against Virginia, Gallagher recorded a career-best 13 tackles to lead the team. It marked his first double-digit tackle contest. Gallagher's 34 tackles are tied for 32nd in the country and are third most in Conference USA, while his 8.5 tackles per game are tied for 37th nationally and are third in the league.
- BAN Blake Matthews has put constant pressure on the quarterback this season, tallying a team-best 4.5 sacks through four games. This is the most sacks in a season by a UD non-defensive lineman since LB Jasawn Thompson recorded 7.0 in 2016. His 4.5 sacks are tied for eighth most in the country and best in Conference USA, while his 1.13 sacks per game rank 10th in the nation and lead the league. Last week, Matthews notched career highs in sacks (2.0) and TFLs (2.0) to go with a career-best 11 tackles. It was the first game with 10+ tackles for the fifth year.
- Against UVA, Gallagher (13) and B. Matthews (11) became the first pair of Fightin' Blue Hens to record 10+ tackles in the same game since LB Gavin Moul and S KT Seay had 12 and 10, respectively, at Jax State on October 15, 2025.
- Delaware's defense has come up with 14 sacks this season, tied for seventh most in the FBS and four more than any other Conference USA team. It's the most by a CUSA program through four games of a season since Middle Tennessee in 2022 (16).
- The Blue & Gold is tied for 13th in the nation with just 18 penalties on the year. Across its four games, it has only conceded 18 penalties for 176 yards. It is tied for 12th nationally with 4.50 penalties per game. UD ranks second in CUSA in both categories, only behind WKU. Only 22 out of the 138 FBS teams average giving up yardage due to penalties less than five times per game, including Delaware.
ABOUT THE FLAMES
- The Flames are 3-1, riding a three-game winning streak, coming off a 34-17 road win over Coastal Carolina.
- Liberty is led by fourth-year head coach Jamey Chadwell, who owns a 28-14 record with the Flames. A 17-year coaching veteran, Chadwell's career record stands at 126-71.
- Former Wake Forest and Charlotte QB Deshawn Purdie runs the offense for the Flames, completing 47-of-80 passes for 779 yards and seven touchdowns on the season.
- On the ground, Liberty is led by former four-star recruit and Florida State RB Kam Davis, who has 310 yards and one touchdown.
- Through the air, former Indiana WR Da'Shawn Martin is the team's leading receiver with 379 receiving yards to go with five TDs. His 379 receiving yards rank second in Conference USA and 15th in the nation, while his five scores are atop the conference and eighth nationally.
- On defense, LB Derrell Farrar, a transfer from App State, leads the way with 20 tackles.
