In his fourth season at the helm, McMenemy led Delaware to a historic and record-breaking 2025 campaign in the program’s 100th season and its first year competing in The Summit League. The Blue Hens posted a 12-2-3 overall record and advanced to The Summit League Semifinals, finishing with the fewest losses (2) in program history among seasons with at least 15 matches. Delaware opened the year with the best start in program history (7-0), went unbeaten in its first 10 matches (9-0-1), and finished the season undefeated at home (8-0).
Under McMenemy’s leadership, Delaware broke 16 program records in the 2025 season and emerged as one of the top attacking teams in the nation, finishing first nationally in scoring offense (2.82 goals per game) and points per game (8.53), while ranking second in goal differential (+37). The Hens also earned a national ranking, climbing as high as No. 24 in TopDrawerSoccer’s Top 25 poll, and received votes in three United Soccer Coaches national polls throughout the season. Delaware led The Summit League in 17 team statistical categories and 15 individual categories, highlighting the program’s growth, depth, and balance under McMenemy’s guidance. Individually, Junior Rich Monath was named The Summit League Midfielder of the Year, while the Blue Hens produced seven All-Summit League selections, four All-ECAC honorees, and six CSC Academic All-District recipients.
In their final year in the CAA conference, McMenemy led the Blue Hens to finish 7-7-2 overall. To open the season, Delaware saw a shutout home opener against Howard with a score of 3-0. The squad saw another epic win in their victory against Rutgers where sophomore Mikey Johnson scored a hat trick leading to a 4-1 Delaware victory. One of McMenemy's newest recruits from Denmark was a national leader for the Hens. Marius Stenner started off with a bang as he collected CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week after his collegiate debut followed by two CAA Rookie of the Week awards throughout the season. Stenner was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Freshmen list at no. 14, the highest in the CAA. He finished off the regular season as the only freshman tied for first nationally for game winning goals at five. He lead the team in points at 22 and goals at nine, while also sitting in the top 100 nationally for those statistics. Stenner also was named to the All-CAA Rookie Team and All-CAA First Team alongside senior, Sam Donnellan. Jan Schroeder also earned a spot on the All-CAA Third Team roster.
In his second season as head coach at the University of Delaware, Tommy McMenemy and his squad enjoyed solid progress, finishing the season 9-4-6. The 2023 season included several milestones. The team opened the season with a 3-2 win over the Big Ten conference champions, Rutgers, and also won their third game in program history against a nationally ranked team, CAA conference rival Hofstra. McMenemy and his staff also oversaw the growth of several players. In total, five Hens earned CAA honors, including first team, second team, and multiple All-Rookie Team honors. The 2023 season was the most successful and first winning season for the Hens since 2016. Significantly, the Hens recorded the lowest number of losses since the 1976 season. Their fourth-place finish in the CAA earned the Hens a trip to the CAA Tournament, in which they defeated Drexel in the first round off penalty kicks, before falling to No. 17 Hofstra in the semi-finals
In McMeneny's first season with the Blue Hens, he led the Blue Hens to a two-win improvement. In his first career game as head coach, he defeated Mount St. Mary's 2-0 on August 25. McMenemy's squad also recorded a draw against UNCW on Sept. 24, who at the time were without a loss in CAA play and had just one loss on the season. Delaware also won an exciting, 1-0 road match against Monmouth on Oct. 22, keeping the Blue Hens' CAA Tournament hopes alive.
Delaware welcomed 13 new players into the 2022 season, including All-Conference and All-Rookie recipient Sam Donnellan and starting goalkeeper Adam Vik. Along with Donnellan, Adalsteinsson was named to the All-Conference team for a third-straight season. Pedro Barbolla, Brian Kelly, and Jack Leonard were all named to the 2022 Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team, selected by College Sports Communicators.
During his 10 seasons with the Wolverines, six as an assistant coach and four as the associate head coach, McMenemy was responsible for bringing in top talent. He recruited seven top-20 ranked recruiting classes within nine years and coordinated and executed all aspects of domestic and international scouting and recruitment. He handled all facets of coaching, organizing team training sessions, and led the attacking unit tactics for the Wolverines.
Playing against top teams across the nation, McMenemy played a pivotal role in Michigan winning its first conference title in program history in 2017. Michigan also earned four berths to the NCAA tournament (2 top-16 seeds). He coached the Big Ten Offensive Players of the Year in 2018 and 2019.
Prior to Ann Arbor, McMenemy served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Columbia University, for six seasons.
The Southampton, United Kingdom native, also served as the head coach of Landsdowne Boys, an amateur men's team in the top division of the New York City's premier semi-professional league, the Cosmopolitan League from 2006-09 - leading Landsdowne to consecutive playoff berths as well as a State Cup Final.
As a player for the Lions, McMenemy earned NSCAA Adidas All-American status as a senior in 2003 and was a two-time unanimous first-team All-Ivy League and First-Team All-Region selection (2002-03). He led the team in goals and assists in his junior and senior seasons and was selected by his teammates as a team captain as a senior. McMenemy also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-Ivy League honors in his final two years as a student-athlete.
“My wife, Jenn, my son, Rhodes, my daughter, Dylan, and I are all truly excited to call Delaware our new home. I am honored to lead this program, and can’t wait to build relationships with our student-athletes to help them compete for championships on the field and achieve excellence in the classroom,” McMenemy expressed.
